Abstract

This talk will first introduce the general architecture of Data Warehouses (DW) as they are implemented in approximately 80% of the fortune 1000 companies today. Second, we'll discuss the opportunities and challenges in implementing data security, integrity, and enhancing data quality in DW environments.

Many common services and metadata are needed throughout a DW system. We hope that this commonality can be expressed in a simple model that will solve some of the integrity and security issues by providing aids and automated services to make the problem manageable. The general metaphor (or model) of source-derivation-destination will be discussed and we'll present some ways this model can be exploited to solve some of the security and integrity issues.
