
What's in the name?
| The names of the various projects undertaken by our group are inspired by the Boston University neighborhood and are chosen to reflect the "nature" of the individual projects. The following is a list of these names and what they signify. |
| Name | Technical Meaning | Relationship to BU |
| MASS Group | Massively Accessed Scalable Servers are web servers that contribute significant traffic to the Internet. | Boston is the capital of the Commonwealth of MASSachusetts (also known as the Bay State). |
| Beacon Project | To diagnose is to shine light (as with a Beacon) on an otherwise black box (i.e. the Internet). | Beacon street marks the southern edge of the BU Campus. The new CS building will be on Beacon. |
| BackBay | An architecture for the integration of diagnosis and control functions in Mass servers. | Boston's Backbay area is the only planned section of town. It has a wealth of unique architectures. |
| Turnpike | Getting rid of variability improves the efficiency of frequently traveled, often congested Internet super highways. | The Mass Turnpike runs parallel to the BU campus. It will ultimately run under the planned CS building. |
| CommonWealth | Clustered servers deliver a Wealth of performance from Common (i.e. commodity) components. | Commonwealth Avenue runs through the heart of the BU campus. |
