General printing information

The CS department maintains printing resources throughout its various locations for the use of its members. Additionally, a printing quota is enforced to ensure proper access and limit wasteful printing.

Printing from Unix

Users logged into a Solaris or Linux operating system have two options for printing files.

  • They may print via the application (if the application provides for it) that created it. This is usually through a print menu option.
  • They may print using the lp or lpr commands.

Printing from Microsoft Windows

Printing from machines running Windows NT is handled by the application the user is working with. Printing from an NT machine is still subject to print quotas.
