Linux operating systems

We currently use and support BU Linux 5 and Scientific Linux 6 on our Linux systems. BU Linux is a re-packaged Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 / CentOS 5 distribution with some additions and customizations to take advantage of BU resources. Scientific Linux 6 is a newer distribution, similarly derived from RHEL 6. While we will make an attempt to assist you with basic problems on systems running other Linux distributions, we do not provide any formal support for distros other than these.

Along with the software packages included and distributed with our supported Linux distributions, we also support the following 3rd party software on our Linux systems:

 

Mac OS X operating system

Along with the standard applications that come with OS X we also support the following:

  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Adobe Dreamweaver
  • Filemaker Pro - through CAS Computing Services
  • Firefox
  • MS Office for Mac (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Entourage, etc)
  • MS Remote Desktop Client

    Microsoft Windows operating system

    The CS department also uses and supports the Microsoft Windows operating system. We currently support Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2003.

    Along with the operating system we also support the following software packages:
