The Department of Computer Science has a distinguished record of
research in a number of key areas of computer science, including
fault-tolerant computing, computer vision, network protocols and
services, operating systems, performance evaluation, programming
languages, real-time systems, applied cryptography, security, and
theory of computation and algorithms. In addition, our department
maintains a close association with other university groups working on
various applied computing areas including scientific computing,
computer engineering, and bioinformatics.
The scholarly work of CS faculty members is of the highest caliber and
impact, as evidenced by publications at the most prominent venues, by
significant citations and awards, and by prestigious national and
international recognition.
Currently active grants add up to over $15 million of sponsored
research and infrastructure, averaging over $200K per faculty
member per year—on par with that of the best computer science
departments nationwide.
