BOSTON UNIVERSITY Computer Science Department Technical Reports This document is stored under /sw/pub/ftp/techreports/INSTRUCTIONS Guidelines for searching: ------------------------ 1. The department's technical reports are maintained on-line in the anonymous FTP directory, which is mounted on the cs cluster under /sw/pub/ftp/techreports/ 2. Technical reports are stored in a compressed PostScript format in a path/file named: ~ftp/techreports/-.ps.Z, where is the technical report number and is an abbreviated name for the technical report. 3. For a list of all the on-line technical reports and abstracts, refer to: /sw/pub/ftp/techreports/ABSTRACTS 4. For individual abstracts of all the on-line technical reports, refer to: /sw/pub/ftp/techreports/abstracts/* 5. The CS Dept Technical Reports of Boston University are available for searching and browsing wordwide through NCSTRL: Networked Computer Science Technical Reports Library and through the Unified Computer Science TR Index, and soon through other similar servers on the Web. A faculty member who wants to issue a technical report should send to the technical reports maintainer an e-mail message containing the following information: +----------------------------------------------------------+ | Title: | | Author: <Author name(s) and affiliation(s)> | | Date: <Date> | | | | Abstract: | | | | <Abstract of the technical report in plain ASCII text> | | | +----------------------------------------------------------+ 2. Upon receipt of the above request, the technical reports maintainer will issue a Technical Report number <TR-NUMBER>, will update the list of Abstracts in the anonymous FTP area, and will modify the TR database to reflect the availability of the newly issued technical report. 3. It is the responsibility of the faculty member who issues the technical report to deposit in the anonymous FTP area a compressed PostScript version of the technical report, stored under the path/filename below: /sw/pub/ftp/techreports/<TR-NUMBER>-<TR-name>.ps.Z where <TR-NAME> is an abbreviated name derived from the technical report's Title. When you deposit this file, please make sure that it is publicly readable by using the "chmod og+r <filename>" command. 4. At any time thereafter, if there is a need to modify the TR abstract or document, then the following two files should be updated. /sw/pub/ftp/techreports/abstracts/<TR-NUMBER> (Abstract file) /sw/pub/ftp/techreports/<TR-NUMBER>-<TR-name>.ps.Z (PostScript file) 5.
