The following instructions are for installing NAV 9 on computers which are not part of the cs-nt.bu.edu domain. All computers that are a part of the domain will have NAV 9 automatically installed.
The software is located on a shared network folder. In order to access this folder, special file access permissions are required. To obtain these permissions, please email support-windows@cs.bu.edu stating that you wish to obtain NAV 9. Specify your username and the machine names of the computers on which you will install NAV 9. For every machine name, please specify if the computer is a laptop, graduate lab computer, TF computer, etc.
After the request has been sent, we will notify you when we have granted the appropriate permissions. You can then proceed to the next step.
Please uninstall any other antivirus software on your computer and restart your computer after doing so. If you need assistance with this, email support-windows@cs.bu.edu.
Note: You must have been granted the appropriate permissions (see Step 1) in order to proceed with this step. You must also be on the BU network. If you are not at BU, this can be accomplished with the VPN client.
The NAV 9 installation file is located at the following location (accessible through Windows):
\\cs-fs1\software$\Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition v9\NAV CE v9.0.msiTo run the file, goto the Start Menu, then Run, and enter the following (this can be copied and pasted directly into the Run text box):
"\\cs-fs1\software$\Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition v9\NAV CE v9.0.msi"Click ok.
Since the computer is not on the domain, you will then be asked for login information. For this, use your CS-NT username and password. Be sure to preface your username with "cs-nt\". So, for example, you would enter something similar to "cs-nt\myusername" in the username field and "MyPassword" in the password field (without the quotes).
After installing the software, please perform a restart of the computer. You now should be running NAV 9. If NAV 9 does not work after restarting, please email support-windows@cs.bu.edu for help.
Please notify support-windows@cs.bu.edu when you have successfully completed an installation. Be sure to include the machine name of the computer(s) which successfully completed installation. At this point, we will verify a completed installation (NAV actions are logged), and your computer will be placed into an appropriate NAV group (through NAV's centralized administration system). If your computer is a laptop, it will be placed into a group which grants additional priviledges for performing actions such as definition updates. This is necessary for non-domain computers which may not always be on the CS network.
