If I have time I will be adding the illustrative diagrams I used (for example in today class to elucidate the relationship between Poisson arivals and exponential interravials). --Azer ___ /\ Azer Bestavros - Assist Prof Comp Sci Dept /|__) _|_____ / \/\ Boston University, MA 02215 617-353-9726 /_|__)es|avros / \ \/\ Http://www.cs.bu.edu/~best best@bu.edu / |zer From best Sun Feb 1 21:52:02 -0500 1998 From: Azer Bestavros To: cs350 Subject: Communicator and not navigator... Just in case you did not know already... Netscape navigator crashes when accessing a local file. Please use Netscape communicator instead when accessing the class notes. To run communicator, type "communicator" at the Unix prompt. --Azer ------- Start of forwarded message ------- Delivery-Date: Sun, 01 Feb 98 14:10:48 -0500 Return-Path: jpolirer@cs.bu.edu Date: Sun, 1 Feb 1998 14:10:32 -0500 (EST) From: Jonathan Polirer X-Sender: jpolirer@cybertron To: Azer Bestavros cc: tas@cs.bu.edu Subject: your 350 pages MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Students are coming into the lab trying to print out the pages that you made for 350. Every time they hit print, navigator crashes with a bus error. However, this error does not occur when using communicator. Would it be possible to put a note to this effect on the page? To run communicator, just type "communicator" at the prompt instead of "netscape". Yes, you need to explain that (I almost gave the solution out in class last week). BTW, while the question is to write a "function", it is advisable that you submit a program that calls that function and show some sample runs (e.g. an execution that calls the function 100 times and plots a histogram of the generated random numbers). --Azer From best Tue Feb 24 19:45:19 -0500 1998 From: Azer Bestavros To: cs350 Subject: Re: HW#2 For those who are working frantically on homework #2 (and who did not believe me when I said it will take a bit of time). He is Besam Khidhir and his email address is . Besam is one of our best graders in the department and we are certainly lucky to have him in cs350. Besam has kindly accepted to discuss questions on grading you may have. However, like many of us, Besam is busy with his own studies and work (and grading cs-350), so I strongly urge you not to take too much of his time if you have questions that have to do with few points here or there. I can tell you that in the grand schema of things, it won't make much of a difference in your final grade. Of course, if you have substantial questions (e.g. you think he did not understand your solutions, etc.), then I am sure he will be all ears.
