End-to-End Examples
Example #2 (we’ll revisit and study closely later in the course:)
- Same problem: corrupted packets
- Scenario: Packets traversing wired and wireless links en route to destination
- Wireless links: high incidence of bit errors.
- Costly to retransmit packets end-to-end (picture)
- Combine hop-by-hop correction over wireless (cost savings) with end-to-end retransmission (correctness)
