This is the CS 111 site as it appeared on December 20, 2022.
While using the software for this course, your computer’s keyboard language must be set to English. If needed, please follow these instructions to change your keyboard language.
Go to the installation page for Spyder.
Under the heading for Standalone installers, click on the link for Windows Installer.
Double-click the icon for the downloaded file. This will start up an installer program.
Important: If you receive a message indicating that Windows is preventing the app from starting, click the link for More info and then click the Run anyway button.
If necessary, give the installer app permission to make changes to your device.
You should be able to use all of the default settings that the installer gives you.
Wait for the installer to finish and then close it. You can now delete the installer program.
In your start menu, you should now be able to find the Spyder application.
Once you have installed Spyder, you must configure it by following the instructions found here.
At some point during the semester, you may need to use a virtual desktop that has been created for students in CS courses. To do so, you need to install the VWware Horizon Client as follows:
Go to the VMware download page.
Find the row in the product table that says VMware Horizon Client for Windows and click the Go to Downloads link found on the right-hand side of that row.
On the resulting page, click the blue Download Now button.
Double-click the icon for the downloaded file. This will start up an installer program.
When presented with the license agreement, click Agree & Install.
Wait for the installer to finish and then close it. You can now delete the installer program.
Restart your computer as needed to complete the installation.
